WebJun 27, 2024 · Do steel timing gears in a 300 ever quiet down? My 1986 F150 (300 inline 6 and 4 speed) left me stranded 100 miles away from home when the phenolic timing gear decided to go. I had it towed back and fixed at a local shop. Had them put in all steel gears as well as a new oil pump. Well the steel gears are A LOT louder than I anticipated.
